In short, we prefer our prices to reflect the true value of our furniture instead of inflating each price to include shipping.

The long answer:

We pride ourselves on providing heirloom quality rustic furniture. Quality materials are a large part of what makes our furniture last, but an overlooked aspect is how a product is assembled. Heirloom quality furniture is designed and assembled by the craftsman and is intended to stay that way. Furniture that is made to ship in a flat box sacrifices quality and stability for cheap shipping rates.

Large, heavy products cannot be boxed and shipped with UPS or FedEx, but require a freight company or a small delivery company.

Freight requires an order to be palletized and picked up by a semi-truck and trailer.  In addition to the product’s price, there is the added cost of packing materials.  Custom pallets, cardboard, foam, and plywood are necessary to ensure the safe arrival of your furniture.

Smaller delivery companies, like our White Glove delivery partner, use smaller trucks and skip the pallet.  Each item is loaded by hand onto a truck or trailer and is blanket-wrapped for protection. This results in less waste (i.e. no disposable packing material) but requires more manpower. One man can deliver a pallet with the proper equipment, but two people must be present for all white glove services.

Man hours, packing materials, and fuel are necessary for your order to arrive at your home.

All this to say, there is no such thing as free shipping.  Someone always pays for shipping, and that someone is you. Free is shorthand for built-in.  The price of the product has been inflated to include shipping.

But what if you live 20 minutes from the shipping warehouse? Is the price to deliver your order the same as an order 1000 miles away?  I doubt it, but you pay the same shipping fee, cleverly disguised as “free”.

Free? At What Cost?

We prefer a more honest approach, allowing you to understand the cost of the furniture versus the cost of shipping.  This allows you to understand the value of each item, as well as the cost of returning any item that is shipped to you, should you opt to do so.

The "free shipping" model puts more money in the company’s pocket by profiting from the product and the shipping method.  We strive to get our products to you at the best rates possible, and 90% of the time we can ship higher quality products for a lower price than the competition that boasts "free shipping."

To ship our products for free would require us to employ the same tactics as our competitors, by increasing the price of each product to include shipping. This means higher prices for everyone. We love our customers in the Poconos and the surrounding area and refuse to raise our prices to satisfy the "free shipping" demands of customers far off. We gladly, and regularly, ship our products all across the United States and will happily ship to you as well, just not for free.
